Letter: Wait! I knew them!

Having been an American history teacher for many years, it was with great interest that I began to read “Inside an attic: hidden history” (Sunday Monitor front page, Oct. 13).

I can think of nothing better than finding long lost attic treasure. I immediately had an “oh my” moment when I realized that the article was about Thelma and Lester Billings. Lester was my old Sunday school teacher! The article mentions that they were involved with local Baptist church groups. I want to add that they were very much a mainstay of the United Baptist Church here in Concord. And they were involved with the American Baptist Churches of New Hampshire.

Sometimes my husband wonders why I love reading the Monitor so. He’s a Boston boy, teethed on the Boston Globe. I love reading my local paper, where nine out of 10 times I know someone – someone as nice as the Billingses!
