Hi 40° | Lo 25°

Letter: Enriched by getting to know the voters

Since 2011, I have had the honor to serve residents of Ward 2 as your city councilor. And over the past eight weeks, I have shaken hands with hundreds of the residents in Ward 3. I want both wards to know how enriched I am for this experience. I have listened to your concerns.

Mr. Kirkman is my hero. My World War II veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor, I may have helped in a small way with the problem at the end of your driveway, but you are a treasure. Did you know he built the Concord water works on Hutchins Street brick by brick?

Mrs. Segura, a new citizen, will cast her first vote during this election. AJ Nolin is also voting for the first time, having just turned 18. Mr. Chase and Mr. Johns are my “eyes” on the neighborhood.

I cannot visit every home, and you have much to share and I love to listen.

I hope you will vote for me Tuesday. It comes with the confidence of knowing I respond at every resident request and have never turned away the opportunity to listen.

One last story: For the sake of privacy I share only by first name. Manny’s beloved left us May 5, and Tuesday marks the sixth-month anniversary of her passing. He is coming to Beaver Meadow Golf Course, and I have promised to hold his hand. This day is so very significant – for him.

(The writer is running for the Ward 3 seat on the city council.)
