Letter: Good news, bad news

Good news: As of Nov. 14 at 9 a.m., the Affordable Care Act website works great. I signed up on the national website, because former House speaker Bill O’Brien and his buddies wouldn’t let New Hampshire have its own site. The bad news is, I didn’t get health care coverage because the New Hamphsire lawmakers haven’t expanded Medicaid eligibility. This is what I was told: “Based on the information you provided, the new federal health care law provides that you are eligible for free or low-cost health care through New Hampshire Medicaid. However, the state of New Hampshire has chosen not to offer you this new health care coverage at this time.”

The national website works fine, but poor people in New Hampshire will still have no health care coverage.

Reply to say what....Millions of jobs go unfilled every year. People can collect unemployment for 2 years. What do they do in that time? Hang out on the couch?

GWTW I don't know what they do and neither do you. I would guess that a majority are out trying to find work in the fields thay are trained in or have an aptitude for. You can't fill a job that requires a degree in engineering with someone who's last job was as a clerk or manager. these people need training or business needs to bring jobs back that they can do. otherwise you do end up with a permanently unemployed class that has no recourse or hope other than govermant assistance. It easy to say they should get a job but in reality the jobs they can do are not there. Even simple jobs like stocking shelves can result in hundreds of pople applying for one position. It is impossible to have 100% employment in any free society. Therefore it is Goverments duty to care for those who fall through the cracks.

No one has an issue with the social safety net. It is however, weighted down with corruption, graft, scamming and it should not be a social hammock. The statistics on retraining programs are abysmal.

reply to say what..you said "Where are all of these uninsured people supposed to find jobs that either pay well enough to buy healthcare or are subsidized by their employers? You can't because they don't exist."...a least 3 million do..http://www.cnbc.com/id/44838614

And the number of unemployed is how many? 12 million. Where do the other 9 million find good well paying jobs. assuming they have the skills necessary to fill them. You can't fill these 3 million jobs without retraining people as the skills required for these jobs are not the skills currently possesed by the unemployed. Which means you have to support them while they are being trained. that means providing food, shelter, and yes medical care. These people have no jobs or income. How are they supposed to pay for all this. or would you let them just starve ? And even if they had the requisite skills these jobs are not in the area in which they currently reside. Where do they get the money to relocate?

Good god, you're hateful. You have no idea what this man's situation is, and yet you judge him. For all you know, he works an overnight shift, full time, at minimum wage. For all you know, he emptied the trash can under your desk and spiffed up the men's room while you were sleeping. May he, like a number of young adults I know, is going to college and working part time. I know one 30 year old woman who attends college full time, and works 20 hours a week. She'd be a perfect candidate to invest in with Medicaid. She'll graduate in a couple years and be self supporting, but for now, she's one accident or illness away from financial disaster, and for what? 60 hours a week of busting her butt to get ahead.

It is not anyone's job but his own to save and pay for his own health care insurance. Public opinion of the liberals stance that it is the govts. job to provide health care is at an all time LOW. Next cradle to grave entitlement liberals will want for all are cars and a house after that free food and cable TV

You voted for Obama you own the Horrific Economy that Obama has giving us. Attacking me for Obama's problems are hate driven. It is a shame when Americans who wake up at 5 AM go to work, put in a hard days work to feed their families are hated by other Americans.

Slow down there. I didn't attack you over anything that Obama has done. I called you out for making an a massive uninformed and insulting assumption about someone whom you know nothing about.

FOF, I just stated my situation. It is you who injected the hatred and made things up as you go along.

Just saying at 9 AM 11/14 I was at work earinging my family's healthcare.

Likewise Van!

Tell us Van. Where are all of these uninsured people supposed to find jobs that either pay well enough to buy healthcare or are subsidized by their employers? You can't because they don't exist. just look at the unemployment rates and the average wages for those jobs that are available. You can't live on them and afford health insurance. You can thank free market capitalism for that. Wages have continued to go down for years as corporate profits continue to increase and jobs are sent overseas.

Saw a story on national news today about Wal Mart sponsoring a food drive for the holidays, for their OWN employees. Another shining example of how the private sector values their workers
