Letter: Under Obama, the middle class suffers

President Obama can’t seem to tell the truth, and now I’m personally affected negatively by his promises about the middle class.

In 2012 I sold the house where I had been living. Today I received a letter from Social Security that my monthly checks beginning in January 2014 would each be decreased by $300 because of the house sale. To make matters worse, I was told that the government is also charging me a 3.8 percent tax on my house sale besides that decrease of $300 monthly! The Concord Social Security office assured me that appealing either of these two issues wouldn’t work and to contact my congresswomen, my legislators and our governor to let them know how I feel.

I did this and other than Sen. Kelly Ayotte, I have heard back from no one, including Rep. Annie Kuster, Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and Gov. Maggie Hassan. Thank you, Senator Ayotte for responding to my call.

Obama assured us repeatedly that the middle class wouldn’t be burdened by anymore taxes. Our president cannot tell the truth. The middle class continues to suffer more under Obama’s watch.
