My Turn: Ardinger is a strong pro-choice candidate

In discussing our endorsement of Kass Ardinger, the Concord Monitor referred to EMILY’s List as a group that promotes anti-abortion Democratic women. This description not only does not apply to Ardinger, but it does not apply to us. At EMILY’s List we’ve been working for nearly 30 years to elect more pro-choice Democratic women – women like Ardinger – to political offices up and down the ballot.

We do this work because we know the importance of having more women in office, more women who are champions for the rights of women, and who fight for policies that help women and their families have a fair shot at a better future.

Pro-choice Democratic women have proven themselves to be great leaders – advancing policies on issues ranging from the environment and the economy to health care and consumer safety. Women like EMILY’s List Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and Reps. Annie Kuster and Carol Shea-Porter. These women are the kind of leaders that Americans are looking for.

These women are also the kind of leaders that New Hampshire residents are looking for in their state government – women like Gov. Maggie Hassan. That’s why EMILY’s List is so excited about our work in the Granite State. New Hampshire, a state with a rich tradition of electing strong female leaders, now has the opportunity to elect even more fantastic women.

Women like Kass Ardinger in District 15, a dedicated member of her community, a fighter for better schools and a perfect successor to fill retiring Senate Leader Sylvia Larsen’s seat. And Linda Tanner, a champion for women’s rights and equal rights, whose race in Senate District 8 is the best chance for picking up a seat that New Hampshire Democrats have.

And we are proud to stand by two women who have been strong advocates for women and families during their careers in the state Senate, Donna Soucy (District 18) and Peggy Gilmour (District 12).

EMILY’s List is proud to have played a role in helping to elect so many fantastic pro-choice Democratic women in New Hampshire, and we are looking forward to adding to their ranks this November.
