Editorial: Our picks for today’s vote

Still looking for some last-minute voting advice? The Monitor endorsed candidates in 15 races and made recommendations on two ballot questions over the past week. Here’s a recap:

In the presidential race, we endorsed President Obama over Republican Mitt Romney.

For governor, we endorsed Democrat Maggie Hassan over Republican Ovide Lamontagne.

In the 2nd District congressional race, we chose Democrat Annie Kuster over incumbent Republican Charlie Bass.

In the 1st District we chose former Democratic congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter over incumbent Frank Guinta.

In Executive Council District 2 (which includes Concord, Franklin and surrounding towns), we chose Democrat Colin Van Ostern over Republican Michael Tierney.

In Executive Council District 4 (which also includes Allenstown, Bow, Chicester, Epsom, Hooksett, Loudon, Pembroke, Pittsfield, Deerfield and Northwood), we recommended Democrat Chris Pappas over Republican Robert Burns.

In state Senate District 15 (Concord, Henniker, Hopkinton and Warner), we recommended incumbent Democrat Sylvia Larsen over Republican Lydia Harman.

In state Senate District 7 (Belmont, Gilford, Laconia, Andover, Boscawen, Canterbury, Franklin, Northfield, Salisbury and Webster), we endorsed Democrat Andrew Hosmer over Republican Joshua Youssef.

In state Senate District 16 (which includes Bow and Dunbarton), we chose incumbent Republican David Boutin over Democrat Kathleen Kelley.

In Senate District 17, which includes Allenstown, Chichester, Epsom, Loudon, Pembroke, Pittsfield, Deerfield, Northwood, our vote went to Democrat Nancy Fraher over Republican John Reagan.

In state Senate District 2 (which includes the local communities of Wilmot, Danbury, Hill, Bristol, Tilton, Sanbornton, New Hampton, Meredith and Center Harbor) our vote went to challenger Robert Lamb, a Democrat, over incumbent Republican Jeanie Forrester.

In Merrimack County Commission District 1 (Concord, Boscawen and Webster), we recommended Republican Liz Hager over incumbent Democrat Liz Blanchard.

In Merrimack County Commission District 3 (Bow, Bradford, Danbury, Henniker, Hopkinton, Hooksett, New London, Newbury, Sutton, Warner and Wilmot), we endorsed Republican incumbent Peter Spaulding over Democrat Bill Cohen.

For the Concord School Board race for three three-year seats, our votes go to incumbents Kass Ardinger and Clint Cogswell and newcomer Oliver Spencer.

In the Concord School Board race for one two-year seat, our pick is Tom Croteau.

On Question 1, permanently banning a personal income tax, we urged residents to vote No.

And on Question 2, giving the Legislature power over rules governing the judiciary, we again encouraged residents to vote No.
