Letter: More STEM reporting, please
There is one area of the Monitor that is non-existent but shouldn’t be. There is no section that reports new scientific findings and technological advances. The most important sector of the U.S. economy right now is the advances in STEM fields. The advances in technology and science are the cornerstone of American ingenuity and excellence, yet the majority of citizens know little to nothing about the STEM fields.
As a reporting agency of news, it is your obligation to report on more than just the social and political issues in our community, nation and world. If the ignorance of citizens continues, then we are heading down a dangerous path where policies regarding STEM are affected by the whims of an ignorant society which can hinder the advancement of the United States. Therefore it is paramount that the Monitor begin reporting recent scientific advancements so as to better educate its readers.
