Letter: Ayotte goes skiing

According to a Monday’s New York Times front-page story New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte opened the New Year on the ski slopes of tony resort town Park City, Utah. Afterward she met with a roomful of corporate executives and lobbyists for lunch. At the home of Gordon Smith, a former senator and now lobbyist and chief executive of the National Association of Broadcasters – which has a long list of matters before the Senate Commerce Committee of which Ayotte is a member – she held her first fundraiser on this trip.

The Times article didn’t state the cost of Ayotte’s junket but a similar one in 2013, also in Park City, for Republican Rep. Dave Camp of Michigan, brought in $63,000 for the St. Regis Deer Valley resort. The amount of money Ayotte was able to raise was also not stipulated. But doubtless the real reason Ayotte was skiing in Utah was to promote skiing in New Hampshire.

....Meanwhile senator Shaheen was missing mandatory votes pertaining to senate filibuster rules by which the appointment of judges and other officials was significantly altered so she could attend a NYC fund raiser hosted by Hollywood élite and George Soros. To Senator Shaheen credit she did make to back to DC and cast votes to cut benefits for veterans and the unemployed.
