Letter: A huge win for families

This week, the Environmental Protection Agency proposed the first-ever federal limits on carbon pollution from power plants, the largest single source of global warming pollution in America.

Across the state, people have felt the consequences of global warming.

In the Northeast, extreme precipitation events have increased by 30 percent and superstorms like Hurricane Sandy are threatening public safety. Irregular winters are negatively impacting our ski and tourism industries. Along our coasts, sea levels are already rising, making storm surges more damaging and disturbing our fisheries.

The National Climate Assessment, released in May, recognized today’s impacts with the statement, “Climate change, once considered an issue for a distant future, has moved firmly into the present.”

This announcement is a huge win for the health of our families and our environment. It is in large part a testament to the millions of Americans, more than 600 local elected officials and hundreds of small businesses that have already demanded the cutting of carbon pollution.

EPA’s proposal, once finalized, will be the largest step the U.S. has ever taken to combat global warming, and it’s our best chance to give our children a legacy we can be proud of.

I applaud Sen. Jeanne Shaheen’s vocal leadership on this issue, and hope Sen. Kelly Ayotte joins her in stepping up to the plate and supporting these first-ever limits on carbon pollution from power plants.

only a LIDV believes that CO2 has anything to do with health matters as it has nothing to do with smog or asthma

PT Barnum would be proud of this crowd. 100% verifiable from any search engine is this - GOOGLE it to learn : .......... there has been zero global warming indistinguishable from zero for 17 years 9 months............2) longest stretch without a major hurricane - tornadoes at all time low...etc etc etc

Yep...BPR...what kind of snake oil do you sell?? IF anyone wanted to find out about Anthropogenic Global Warming (and, I'm sure those who pay you wouldn't want you to) go the National Climate Data Center website and learn that TEN of the HOTTEST years on record have happened since 1998. Of course, the coal company that pays you wouldn't want anyone to know. But, here it is

Next, you will be saying that "97% of scientists agree...blah, blah, blah". Let's put that myth to rest right now, from the Wall Street Journal, May 26, 2014: "The assertion that 97% of scientists believe that climate change is a man-made, urgent problem is a fiction. The so-called consensus comes from a handful of surveys and abstract-counting exercises that have been contradicted by more reliable research. One frequently cited source for the consensus is a 2004 opinion essay published in Science magazine by Naomi Oreskes, a science historian now at Harvard. She claimed to have examined abstracts of 928 articles published in scientific journals between 1993 and 2003, and found that 75% supported the view that human activities are responsible for most of the observed warming over the previous 50 years while none directly dissented. The "97 percent" figure in the Zimmerman/Doran survey represents the views of only 79 respondents who listed climate science as an area of expertise and said they published more than half of their recent peer-reviewed papers on climate change. Seventy-nine scientists—of the 3,146 who responded to the survey—does not a consensus make. " truly are a mouthpiece for the fossil fuel industry. Who else could warp the truth with such denial of truth. Maybe you should read : which states, and I quote: "...In 2004, Naomi Oreskes performed a survey of 928 peer-reviewed climate papers published between 1993 and 2003, finding none that rejected the human cause of global warming." Did you read that properly: NONE rejected the human cause of global warming NONE !!!

97% of 79 scientists is 76.63 scientists. I guess one of them had some doubt. The Wall Street Journal reported this and I think I trust them over a carlson, any day. But the real 97% came from the Zimmerman/Doran survey where 79 out of 3146 respondents, as the Wall Street Journal stated: "does ot a consensus make". Drill here, drill now, let's get some of that cheap gas.

The pause continues – Still no global warming for 17 years 9 months..... By Christopher Monckton of Brenchley ..... According to the RSS satellite data, whose value for May 2014 has just been published, the global warming trend in the 17 years 9 [months] since September 1996 is zero (Fig. 1). The 213 months without global warming represent more than half the 425-month satellite data record since January 1979. No one now in high school has lived through global warming.
