Letter: Bad decision on Obama film

The business decision made by Common Man owner Alex Ray is imprudent at best. Despite numerous requests to cancel the viewing of an anti-Obama film, he has sided with his Republican cronies and his pocketbook (“Plymouth’s Flying Monkey will show anti-Obama documentary,” Monitor front page, Oct. 26).

With the negative campaigning, perhaps Ray believes negativity is the new norm. Perhaps he is forgetting that Democrats are also patrons.

This level of blatant disrespect for our president and, by extension, his supporter will forever make me uncomfortable entering a Common Man restaurant. I ask other Democrats, do you really want to add financial support to Alex Ray’s business? There are many other choices and, as Ray apparently believes, money talks.

CHERYL HOUSTON

Hillsboro

What do you expect from the folks who brought you that "awesome cheese and cracker bar?!?!" I mean, cottage cheese and cocktail sauce mixed together?!?!?! And then there's "white chocolate for dessert!" I mean c'mon . . . it's not even REAL CHOCOLATE!!!! "Here, we hope you enjoyed your dinner - here's a lump of butter, sugar and vanilla extract." Then there's the horrible lighting. You need to wear one of those Petzl headlamps just to read the menu. Not that you're missing anything if you don't read it.

I have heard that they are adding a venison burger, you might change your mind. But in reality, he is bleeding heart. I support anyone's right to show a Michael Moore film or anti-Obama film. If people don't like it then don't go see it.

The letter writer is completely off base. Ray can be lumped in with the Hirschberg, Ben & Jerry crowd. the beautiful people up on Nob Hill in Concord who preach but seldom practice what they preach. He is a liberal. Maybe, however, he does believe in free speech and like many of us. maybe he realizes just how bad Obama is for this country.

Is "nob hill" in Barnstead? Just curious...

I don't know much about Barnstead. Nob Hill is up behind the hospital where the hoity toity Volvo / Merdedes driving, evangelistic progressives zealously worship Obama and preach from high on their pedestals.

I will be more likely to return to a Common Man Restaurant. So everyone should be boycotting every business that they may disagree politically with? It doesn't sound like the American way.

It is amazing how liberals hate freedom of speech if someone doesn't agree with them. It is amusing how much disrespect President Bush received. The chickens have come home to roost on the liberals. It seems that they don't like the taste of their own medicine.

Hopefully you feel the same way about Michael Moore films, or is it just films that show Dems in a bad light? There was a time when folks were fine with folks having a different opinion than they did. Last time I checked you had the option of eating, going to see certain movies, and selecting where you did business. You have the right to boycott, you can take that right as far as you want to with everybody you decide to do business with. I have many places I do business with, but where they stand politically never has any impact on my choice to do business with them. I have plenty of Doctors, Dentists, etc that I disagree with. But I value their service. I go to them for service not politics.
