Letter: Van Kalken for Dunbaton tax collector
Dunbarton Tax Collector Martha Rae is retiring after 29 years of service, and five people are competing for her office. It’s highly probable whoever is elected will also serve Dunbarton for many years, so we need to choose carefully.
I’m voting for Judy van Kalken. She’s the best fit for the position. Her background and skills as a paralegal at a major law firm blend well with this statute-driven position. She’s accustomed to working with government agencies, including the registry of deeds and was once a deputy clerk at the U.S. District Court. Van Kalken is experienced with the lien process and is used to working under deadlines. She is software savvy and detail oriented.
Van Kalken is also a new face in our elections. There are a limited number of positions at the town office, and it will be good to have some new blood. Her professional abilities, blended with her friendly and diplomatic manner, will be a welcome addition.
I urge you to vote for Judy van Kalken on March 12.
And remember, if you’re not registered to vote by March 12, you cannot vote on March 16 at the school district meeting. Dunbarton will vote to either continue its educational partnership with Goffstown or switch to Bow. The school budget represents almost 80 percent of your Dunbarton tax dollars. Everyone should participate – not just those with children in school.
