Letter: Black? Not really

Re “U.S. stopping use of term ‘Negro’ for census survey” (Monitor Nation & World section, Feb. 26):

I can understand their objection to the term, but in my 95 years of encountering these people, I have never seen a black person. Dark brown, light brown, tan but never black. I feel that the term Afro-American is much more appropriate. It reflects their racial origin and their relationship to the good old U.S.A.
