Annmarie Timmins’s confessional piece about depression (“One of the 26 percent,” Sunday Monitor Viewpoints, March 17) brought me to tears, inspiring me to publicly thank Timmins for her braveness and fortitude. Until society recognizes that mental illness is a pervasive problem and touches everyone, there will never be sufficient resources to address it. I wish everyone, especially those in public office who can make a difference, could read Timmins’s powerful account of her struggle with depression. How can we make it go viral and inspire others like her to come out and tell their stories? Bravo, Ms. Timmins!
