After reading the Monitor’s sensationalist story about Amanda Bacher (“Coach charged in assault on ex”) on the front page immediately below the masthead Tuesday, I am upset for several reasons.
You chose to put this story on the front page, rather than the beautiful story about one of our educators who had just been named Middle School Special Educator of the Year. That story appeared further inside your newspaper.
Tuesday’s front-page story was written in such a way as to eviscerate a lovely, gentle, kind-hearted and special young woman, whom I have known for seven years. While I am confident that the truth of what actually happened will eventually come out, by then the damage that you have caused to her reputation will likely be irreparable. Undoubtedly you will bury the real facts inside the paper rather than on the front page where today’s story appeared. And for what? To sell papers? How sad.
