Letter: The real story

You can’t mislead and lie your way to the truth and be considered a person of integrity.

On April 27, at 4:04 p.m., Sen. Kelly Ayotte voted against Senate Bill S649 and the Manchin amendment. Its “statement of purpose” was: “To protect Second Amendment rights, ensure that all individuals who should be prohibited from buying a firearm are listed in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, and provide a responsible and consistent background check process.”

End of story.

DEIRDRE SHEERR-GROSS

New London

If you cannot disprove the message, discredit the messenger. That is the number one rule of Dems.

Deidrer, Background check as the title on the cover but Sen. Ayotte did due diligence and actually looked inside and saw the problems. Do you want our legislators to just read the cover or actually read inside? This such political show as that proposal would have made no difference in any of the oft cited crimes. Again- criminals do not obey laws. They would not this law, they did not the last law and no reason to assume they will the next law. That is why they are called 'outlaws". Much can be done but this political theater just wastes time/energy that could be more useful. What have done to send corrective messages to violent imagery industry?
