Letter: Lack of compassion

Re “Canterbury cancer patient who pleaded to Hassan dies” (Monitor front page, May 14):

The death of Hardy Macia shows the lack of compassion for the sick by the governor. He was only looking for an opportunity to grow a plant – neither an opium poppy nor a tobacco plant. Just a cannabis plant. He did not want to smoke it. Cookies or brownies with cannabis were good enough.

How many people have to suffer like Macia? Would the governor prefer that in the Live Free or Die state that the people suffering just die? That would end the debate.
