Hi 26° | Lo 19°

Letter: The phoebes are back!

We enjoyed the column in the June 2 Sunday Monitor on the nesting habits of the Eastern phoebe (“A sure sign of the season: The phoebes return to roost,” Ruth Smith). We have a pair of phoebes that come back each year and nest above the door of our book shop here in Henniker. They typically lay two clutches of eggs and the first clutch of eggs has produced four chicks, which can be seen on a webcam we installed to watch their progress.
