Hi 17° | Lo -7°

Letter: Can this be a good idea?

Do you think medium-size employers should get about a $5,000 benefit for hiring “legalized” illegal aliens rather than American citizens? Should taxpayers provide an $18-per-hour subsidy so employers can hire cheap labor?

Does passing an amnesty bill that the Congressional Budget Office says only stops 25 percent of the illegal alien problem make sense?

Is allowing about seven low-skilled immigrants (who receive more benefits than they pay in taxes) for every high-skilled immigrant a good idea?

Is legalizing about 46 million, mostly uneducated low-skilled, immigrants in the next 20 years a good idea?

Should Congress pass an immigration bill that the budget office says increases American unemployment? Should Congress pass an immigration bill that the budget office says lowers the wages of most American? Is rewarding 11 million law-breakers a good idea?

If you think these are good, then you will applaud the votes by U.S. Sens. Ayotte and Shaheen.

Do you like being intentionally deceived by false claims that there will be “enforcement first,” fines and back taxes, strict background checks, no access to welfare and a deficit reduction? If so, then you will applaud the promises by Sens. Ayotte and Shaheen.

If, like me, you think that the good of American workers is more important than that of immigrant law breakers, if you don’t like false promises, then I suggest you contact Sens. Ayotte and Shaheen immediately and tell them to vote “no” on the “Gang of Eight” Comprehensive Immigration Bill.
