Letter: Bad news for birds, neighbors

On behalf of my family and neighbors, I want to express my gratitude to The Richmond Co. for tearing down those 7 awful wooded acres across the street from my home. The view from my front porch has greatly improved as I am no longer forced to look at those decades-old trees change color each autumn and fill with green leaves again each spring.

The view was made even better recently with the addition of the company’s all-too-small signage. We also love the extra night-time lighting provided by the apartment complex on the backside of the acreage; we do not need to turn on our own lights. I can only imagine how this has benefitted our property value!

We particularly enjoyed watching and hearing the distressed cries of the hundreds of birds who nested in those trees as they searched for their newborn young, to say nothing of the other animals (deer, fox, squirrels, raccoons, etc.) who called those woods home. What were they thinking trying to live in such a location?! It was especially insightful to clear this land with no further plans for it, as the animals no longer need to worry about when that might happen (and can start shopping for a new abode now), and those of us who live here can wonder with great anticipation what will happen next.

The surprise of the event was an added bonus! I am impressed that Concord approved the company’s intent to cut. Many thanks to all involved!
