Letter: Wind, not coal
People of all ages are invited by 350 New Hampshire to the Climate Rally for Coal-Free New Hampshire, to be held in Market Square in Portsmouth, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The rally will promote the replacement of environmentally damaging coal power with clean wind power as the source of electrical energy. There will be informational materials, music, a petition asking Gov. Maggie Hassan to address the need for a sustainable energy policy and perhaps an encounter with the dastardly Snidely Whiplash. It will include talks about citizen resistance to burning coal and the prospect of replacing coal with wind as the source of energy.
Jay O’Hara, who recently used a small boat to block a tanker from delivering coal at a Massachusetts port, will talk about his civil disobedience. Kim Richards will describe how citizens in Eliot, Maine, developed a petition against air pollution from PSNH’s Schiller Station in Portsmouth. And to tell us how to replace coal with a clean energy source, Doug Bogen will speak about bringing wind power to the New Hampshire coast.
