Letter: Neither bizarre nor extreme

In response to the letter from Will Coggin from the Center For Consumer Freedom calling animal rights activists bizarre and extreme (“Unfair criticism,” Monitor, Oct. 5):

Our state’s motto, “Live Free or Die” should include the opportunity to speak out against animal cruelty, worker exploitation and unsafe working conditions.

House Bill 110 not only limits journalistic freedom but also criminalizes those seeking to establish a pattern of abuse against food safety standards, animal treatment and other abuses.

Is it bizarre to expose those exploiting others? History proves the inadequacy of our government to safely monitor our food supply – is it extreme to want to protect ourselves?
