Letter: Terrible scene atop Mt. Kearsarge
On Oct. 14 I drove and then walked to the summit of Mount Kearsarge from the Warner access road. The road and trail are well maintained with several excellent viewing areas; the summit of the mountain was another story.
The old cabin that at one time housed fire wardens working in the fire tower was still standing but totally trashed by falling ice chunks from the hideous communications tower built next to it. Several things should be done very soon:
∎ Everyone and anyone responsible for allowing this tower to be constructed should be banished from the state of New Hampshire, at least until the tower is dismantled.
∎ The tower should come down, now.
∎ The cabin should be restored and protected from falling ice.
If you would like to get a feel for the visual effects of Northern Pass towers, take a trip to the summit of Mount Kearsarge; I probably will not return.
