Letter: A friend to veterans

Re “Kuster, Shea-Porter betray N.H. veterans” (Monitor letter, Oct. 12):

As a Vietnam veteran I understand that, despite Bob Jones’s assertions, Congresswoman Annie Kuster has been a longtime friend and supporter of the veterans community. Since taking office, she has worked to improve veterans’ access to medical care in New Hampshire and to address the growing backlog of VA claims around the country. In regards to the government shutdown, Kuster understood that choosing to reopen some parts of the government but not others did not address the real problem.

Many veterans rely on Medicaid and access to full VA services, and opening the government piece by piece would have left them without many of these essential programs. Instead, Kuster stood her ground and helped find a solution that benefits veterans, as well as all the people of New Hampshire. I want to thank Kuster for her strength and commitment to our veterans, our state and our country.

Rep. STEVE SHURTLEFF

Legacy Comments1

Bob Jones was far more accurate Kuster, Shaheen, and Shea-Porter bad for the military bad for America. We need to vote out Kuster, Shaheen, and Shea-Porter, and Rep Shurtleff in November of 2014.
