Hi 28° | Lo 3°

Letter: Great job, Republicans!

I want to congratulate the House Republicans for stepping away from the polarizing extreme right wing of their party and doing what is best for the country by passing the latest spending bill.

As an independent I never get a candidate who is 100 percent in line with my beliefs. Instead, I support the candidate who covers more of my beliefs but also is willing to work hard either at the state or federal level to get things done. With a divided government the only candidates who will accomplish things are the ones willing to compromise.

The latest bill isn’t great for either side, and it covers only a few of my wants, but it did accomplish something big. It let the true Republicans take back their party and show they can get things done. The “my way or the highway” attitude of the extreme right wing will ultimately kill the Republican Party.

As an independent I usually have a split ticket when voting, but over the past few years the extreme right wing Republicans have kept me on the Democratic side when supporting candidates. I hope this latest vote will get the Republican Party moving back toward the center where they will get my vote and hopefully those of a lot more independents as well.

Do you not see the "my way or the highway" attitude of Harry Reid, never allowing any of the Republican house bills to come to the floor of the Senate for a vote? Reaching across the aisle is not a right to left activity. It needs to work both ways.

On one hand they pass a budget and on the other hand they threaten to shut down goverment in February over the debt limit on spending they agreed to. Imagine that. Yup Great job. NOT.

Great job??? They see the coming debacle in the next election. I think it is too late for them to try to change their spots but we have to give them an A for effort.

'changing spots" really? the democrats are Chameleons - they dont have a principled bone in them - they change whichever the wind blows. Responsible Republicans have principle and back bone and adhere to the CONSTITUTION. democrats only follow their for ever changing ideology. their current ideology is so far left it borders on the "ism " philosophies

"Responsible Republicans" - is that a subset of the party?

"A Gallup analysis of interviews of more than 350,000 Americans in all 50 states and the District of Columbia finds that fewer people defined themselves as Democrats"......"The Gallup survey found that 75 percent of Americans consider themselves conservative to moderate; and 21 percent see themselves as liberal." Now you know you are a part of a fleeting minority of Real American Political thought
