Ads must be at the Monitor at least two days before publication (Wednesday for Sunday ads). These deadlines are absolute and are designed to give us time to preflight your file and contact you if there are any problems. Space reservation deadlines may differ and should be scheduled with your Concord Monitor Advertising Consultant.

FIRST, A Word About E-Mail:

It is important to recognize that E-MAIL IS NOT A GUARANTEED MEDIUM. When you send your document it could reach its destination in a matter of seconds or not at all. If you are sending your ad via e-mail attachment, please call us to confirm receipt. Please be sure to identify the advertising representative's name in the subject line of your e-mail, and in the body of the e-mail message please specify the size of the ad, insertion date and any relevant information such as greyscale, spot, or process color.

You can send your ad as a PDF file email attachment to ads@cmonitor.com

NOTE - The Concord Monitor email system will reject your email if the attachment you send does NOT end in one of the following: .pdf, .doc, .eps, .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .ps, .rtf, .tif, .tiff, .txt

FTP:

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is an electronic and relatively instant process which you can use to deliver all your electronic ad related materials. If you have access to an internet connection, this may be a wise option for you. The software used to transfer files via FTP is free or with minimal cost, easy to install and easy to use. In some cases you can even use your Web Browser. This service is free to you and unlimited. We can help you get aqainted with the use of our FTP server if you are interested.
If FTP is your delivery method, your insertion info can be included as part of your layout (outside the ad's border). As always, communicate with your ad rep if there are any questions.

APs ADSEND SERVICE:

We have had much success with this and highly recommend it. Their digital service allows you to send a PDF file to any newspaper or combination of newspapers for a per ad fee.
To find out more visit http://www.adsend.com/infopages/public/.

FILE SIZES:

File sizes exceeding 15 MB are too large to deliver via e-mail attachment and may not be accepted by our server. If you anticipate needing to send large files on a regular basis, please get aquainted with using our FTP server or consider using the Associated Press' AdSend service.

HAND DELIVERY or MAIL:

Please forward all materials to the attention of your Concord Monitor Advertising Consultant. Concord Monitor, One Monitor Drive, Concord, NH 03302 (603) 224-5301 Fax: (603) 228-8238

NAMING YOUR FILES:

Please be sure to name your file appropriately for easy identification. The advertiser's name and size of ad (i.e. thecardstore2x5.pdf) is preferred.
Note: NEVER use a "/" slash in your file names or characters other than letters and numbers, it will be rejected by some systems and could delay production for your materials.

Creating PDF Files:

Most major document layout applications such as Quark Xpress, InDesign and Pagemaker come with the ability to export your documents directly to a PDF. Whenever you create a PDF for press it is extremely important, in any case, to be certain of what Job Options are being applied when you create them.

Our suggested Acrobat Distiller job options are listed below. If you are not able to edit or add a custom set of job options to use please use the "Press" or "Press Optomized" settings that come as one of the default sets in your Job Options palette (for Acrobat 4.0 or newer). Your options and screens you see may be slightly different from what you see here depending on what version and platform you are running.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you submit an ad as a PDF that has "Security", "Encryption" or "Fonts not Embedded" it will be returned to you.

PHOTOGRAPHS / HALFTONES:

Any photographic image or halftone being used in your ad should be prepared with the following key points in mind in order to ensure the best reproduction quality:

Scans should be captured at 100% of the desired reproduction size or as close as possible. (as opposed to scaling within your layout program)

Resolution should be 180 to 200 dpi for the Concord Monitor press environment.

Avoid scanning items that are "printed" (as opposed to a true photograph).

Color mode for images should always be either Grayscale or CMYK not RGB.
Exception: When we are building your ad in house and toning your images for you, we suggest supplying them to us as RGB and we will do the conversion for you.

Image file formats should either be .tif, .jpg or .eps.

Digital photos are resized properly by bring the resolution up and simultaneously bringing the overall document print size down. Typically this is done in an image editing program such as Adobe Photoshop by deselecting the "Resample Image" box when resizing. (see below)

LINEART:

Any lineart should be scanned using the 'lineart' setting on your scanner. The 'lineart' setting scans the artwork as a bitmap and will provide you with a much cleaner line than scanning it greyscale. Any lineart at 100% size should be saved as a 600 dpi TIFF.

SCREENS:

If your ad contains any halftone screens, please make sure that the screen percentage is no less than 10%. Lighter screens may not reproduce well.

SPOT COLORS:

The Monitor's press has a specific spot color pallete that you may choose from. A copy of the pallette is available upon request. The most commonly used spot colors are:

Reflex Blue (100% C, 40% M, 0% Y, 0% K),

X-Mas Red (0% C, 100% M, 40% Y, 0% K)

Green (100% C, 0% M, 100% Y, 0% K)

Orange (0% C, 100% M, 100% Y, 0% K)

and of course, Cyan, Magenta, or Yellow.

PANTONE COLORS: We cannot reproduce any PANTONE Matching System (PMS) colors as spot color. It is your responsibility to create a process color (CMYK) match if you would like to mimic a PMS color.

LINE SCREEN SETTINGS: For ads that come on electonic media, composing for a line screen of 100 lpi will provide you with the best results. For best results, make sure that your image resolution (at 100% size) is twice the required linescreen. Example: For a line screen of 100 lpi, the resolution of your image should be 200 dpi (dots per inch). If you are sending camera-ready ad slicks, you should format for a line screen of 85 lpi.
