A 69-year-old man in a black sedan died yesterday afternoon after striking a guardrail and careening into a vacant house along Route 106 in Loudon, according to the police.

The accident, near the intersection with Staniels Road, was reported shortly before 3 p.m.

The police at the scene said the cause of death is still under investigation, but they indicated that a medical condition may have contributed to the accident. There were no signs that intoxication or drug use was involved, Loudon police Chief Robert Fiske said.

Fiske said authorities were withholding the identity of the driver until they notified the next of kin.

The car had been traveling north when it struck a guardrail for “no apparent reason,” Fiske said. It then veered left, crossing the opposite lane and continuing about 170 feet before crashing into the south side of a gray, single-story home.

Fiske reported no other passengers in the vehicle, and he said no one else was injured in the accident. He also said he did not know how fast the car had been moving at the time of the accident.
