A cool thing happened last week in Concord.

Ruby Tuesday waitress Sarah Hoidahl surprised a few women who had been furloughed from the National Guard by picking up their lunch tab.

Hoidahl, a 21-year-old single mother of a 15-month-old, just said she wanted do something nice for the women since they protect our country but aren’t getting paid because of the government shutdown. So instead of a check, she left a note.

The New Hampshire National Guard was quick to recognize her good deed on their Facebook page (the photo above is currently its cover photo), and Ruby Tuesday congratulated its employee on its national Facebook page as well.

Hoidahl wasn’t looking for attention. She just wanted to so something nice. “Just seeing the reaction on their face was totally worth it,” she said.

She just chalked it up to doing a good deed. And it was.

I think it’s great that the little things folks do for others are getting attention.

And I’m happy to give it.
