The Concord Monitor in Concord, New Hampshire, is seeking applicants for our paid Summer internship. Current students and recent graduates are preferred.
The staff consists of two photographers who will work closely with the selected intern. Typical daily coverage is 1-2 assignments. The intern is considered a member of the staff responsible for meeting deadlines, working with reporters and editors, and collaborating with page designers. Along with daily coverage, the Monitor photo staff encourages long-form storytelling and will be given time during working hours to pursue approved stories and ideas.
Applicants should be technically proficient and experienced with PhotoMechanic, Lightroom or Photoshop, along with Final Cut Pro. Canon camera equipment supplied if needed and there is a pool camera and 300mm. Interns must have their own reliable car and cell phone.
We're not necessarily looking for portfolios that hit all the traditional categories, but we are looking for the ability and potential to cover daily news, features and sports in interesting ways. We're looking for an applicant who will push beyond what they're assigned and invest time and effort into assignments. Photo stories and/or essays should be included.
Applicants should mail a portfolio (digital portfolios on CDs are preferred), resume, cover letter, names and contact information for three references to: Andrea Morales and John Tully, The Concord Monitor, One Monitor Drive, Concord, NH 03301. Overnight packages can be received at this address. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.]
Applications must be postmarked by December 31 for the Summer 2014 position.
