Meacham to head Fisher Cats coaching staff

Former major league player and coach Bobby Meacham was named the new manager of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, taking over for Gary Allenson, who was promoted to manager of the Blue Jay’s Triple-A team in Buffalo, N.Y.

John Nunnally returns to the team as hitting coach, a position he held in 2012, and Jim Czajkowski takes over as pitching coach.

Meacham piloted the Dunedin Blue Jays to a first-half divisional title and a playoff berth in the Florida State League last season. He spent six of the previous seven seasons as a base coach with the Florida Marlins, San Diego Padres, New York Yankees and Houston Astros. A former shortstop, he played six seasons with the New York Yankees.

Opening day is less than three months away. The Fisher Cats begin the season on the road on April 3; the home opener is April 10 against the Binghamton Mets.
