Monarchs put 37 shots on net but fall to IceCaps, 4-1
Manchester peppered St. John’s goalie Eddie Pasquale with 37 shots, but 36 of them failed to find their mark and the Monarchs fell to the IceCaps, 4-1, on the road last night.
St. John’s (20-15-1-2) took a 1-0 lead 52 seconds into the game on a goal by Jason Jaffrey and never looked back. The IceCaps increased their lead to 3-0 in the second period, first on a short-handed goal by John Albert and then on a power-play tally by Jerome Samson.
Manchester (25-11-2-4) scored its lone goal with 5:43 left in the second on Nick Deslauriers’s wrist shot from the right face-off circle. Jeff Schultz took a shot from the left point that deflected off of Jordan Weal and over to the opportunistic Deslauriers, making it 3-1. But Pasquale saved 18 Monarchs shots in the third period and St. John’s capped the win on Samson’s second goal of the night, an empty-netter with 14 seconds left.
Monarchs goalie J.F. Berube made 27 saves.
