Sharks take bite out of Monarchs in shootout

Yanni Gourde and Dan DaSilva scored in a shootout and Worcester goalie Harri Sateri stopped all but Manchester’s Zach O’Brien as the Sharks beat the Monarchs, 4-3, yesterday.

The loss denied Monarchs goalie Mathias Niederberger a win in his AHL debut. Niederberger stopped 28 shots, though, and Manchester rallied from a 3-0 deficit to earn a point and improve to 28-12-2-5 atop the Atlantic Division. Worcester dropped to 20-17-3-1 and is ranked fourth.

The Sharks scored three straight goals in a span of seven minutes in the second period, but Jordan Weal’s power-play goal got Manchester back into it and Colin Miller made it a one-goal game entering the final frame.

A.J. Gale’s goal at 8:54 of the third period forced overtime, where Worcester outshot the Monarchs, 4-0, but neither team scored.
