Monarchs rally but lose to Falcons in shootout, 4-3
The Manchester Monarchs staged an impressive rally, battling back from a two-goal first-period deficit and scoring the tying goal with less than two minutes to go in regulation, but fell to Springfield, 4-3, after losing a shootout, 2-0, last night.
Jordan Weal knotted the game at 3 with a power-play tally with 1:49 to go, scoring off of an assist from goalie Martin Jones.
The Falcons took a 2-0 lead on goals from Paul Thompson and Darryl Boyce, but Manchester came back when Nick Shore scored in the second period and Colin Miller found the net in the third.
Thompson scored again with 9:18 to play, making it 3-2 and setting the stage for Weal’s heroics. Andrew Joudrey and Jonathan Marchessault scored the shootout goals for Springfield.
Jones made 20 saves for the Monarchs. Mike McKenna had 38 stops for the Falcons.
