UNH captain Knodel signs on with NHL’s Maple Leafs
UNH defenseman Eric Knodel took the first step in his pro career yesterday, signing an entry-level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team announced yesterday.
The 6-foot-6 Knodel played four years with the Wildcats, serving as captain this year. His rights had been owned by the Maple Leafs since the 2009 draft, when he was taken in the fifth round with the 128th pick while a member of the Philadelphia Junior Flyers.
Knodel was fourth on the team in scoring this season, totaling seven goals and 21 assists. His plus-16 rating was third on the team and highest among defensemen.
Knodel will play with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies the remainder of the season.
