College standouts

Franklin’s Derrick Sylvester improved to 4-1, pitching a complete game in the SNHU baseball team’s 6-3 victory over Bentley. Sylvester yielded three runs on eight hits while striking out seven.

∎ Concord’s Katie Kennard went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI in Plymouth State’s 13-1 victory over Salem State, and went 1-for-4 with a run in the nightcap, a 7-5 win.

High school hockey

Glen Wiswell of St. Thomas scored a hat trick to lead Team Red to a come-from-behind 8-6 win over Team White at the Senior All-Star Classic last Saturday.

In the Division III game, Garrett Thomas of John Stark-Hopkinton scored a hat trick to lead Team Light over Team Dark, 8-6. Laconia-Winnisquam’s Dakota Tyno scored four goals for Team Dark.

Road race

The Sullivan County Humane Society will host the first Furry Scurry 5K Run/Walk May 25 in Sunapee Harbor. Cost is $25 – children 12 and younger are free – with all proceeds to benefit the SCHS. Sorry, no pets allowed. There will be prizes and free T-shirts for the first 100 registrants. Preregister online at opensignups.com. Roller derby

New Hampshire Roller Derby kicks off the 2014 season April 12 at JFK Coliseum in Manchester. Granite Skate Troopers take on Nightmares on Elm Street at 5 p.m., followed by Queen City Cherry Bombs vs. Calamity Janes at 7. Doors open at 4:30. Tickets are $12 at the door, $10 in advance. Bow sports meeting

Hillcat Baseball Kick-Off Clinic, run by Hillsboro-Deering Coach Mike Donnell, will be held April 6 at Hillsboro Deering High School for players in grades 5-8.
