Fisher Cats sweep Curve with extra-inning victory
Melky Mesa’s single in the 12th inning broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Fisher Cats (21-35) to a 2-1 victory over the Altoona Curve (20-36) yesterday, giving New Hampshire its first sweep of a road series this season.
Kevin Nolan belted a solo home run in the fourth to give the Fisher Cats a 1-0 edge. But Altoona pulled even in the bottom of the eighth when Drew Maggi doubled and later scored on a single by Alen Hanson.
Fisher Cats reliever Dustin Antolin induced a double play grounder to end the ninth with Altoona threatening with two on and one out.
New Hampshire pushed across the go-ahead run in the 12th when Jonathan Jones reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second with two outs and scored on Mesa’s single.
Randy Boone pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the inning for his fifth save.
