Fisher Cats sweep doubleheader from Rock Cats
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats broke open a close game with a five-run sixth inning on the way to an 8-0 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader with the New Britain Rock Cats last night. The blowout win capped a sweep thanks to a late rally in the opener that gave the Fisher Cats a 3-2, eight-inning victory.
New Hampshire used five singles, two walks and a wild pitch to build its lead from 3-0 to 8-0 in the sixth. Casey Lawrence finished off a complete-game one-hitter for the victory; he struck out eight. Three players had multi-hit games, including Jack Murphy (2-for-2, walk, two runs), Matt Newman (2-for-3, two runs, two RBI) and Jon Berti (2-for-4, RBI).
In the opener, Mike McDade (1-for-3) homered to center field to lead off the bottom of the seventh, tying the game at 2-2 and sending it to extra innings. In the eighth, Berti (1-for-3) doubled home Kenny Wilson (1-for-4) all the way from first base after the speedy center fielder beat out a bunt with one out.
Tyler Ybarra earned the win in Game 1 with a scoreless inning of relief after Radhames Liz (five innings, two runs) and Randy Boone (two scoreless innings) pitched effectively.
