Trio of homers lifts Fisher Cats over Fightin Phils
Jack Murphy, Andy Burns and Kevin Nolan homered as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats topped the Reading Fightin Phils, 6-2, yesterday afternoon.
Reading put together two hits to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. K.C. Serna doubled, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a single by Raywilly Gomez.
New Hampshire (38-45) moved in front with a pair of two-run homers in the top of the fifth inning. Pierce Rankin’s double was followed by a Murphy blast to make it 2-1. Jorge Flores singled and Burns went deep to make it 4-1.
Reading (34-46) came back with a run in the bottom of the frame when Peter Lavin tripled and scored on a single by Serna to make it 4-2.
Nolan drilled his fourth home run in the sixth inning to again give the Fisher Cats a three-run lead. They added another run when Dalton Pompey reached on a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning.
John Anderson made his first start of the season, allowing two runs in 4.2 innings before giving way to Dustin Antolin (3-3), who retired all seven batters he faced. Randy Boone worked two scoreless frames to finish up for his ninth save.
Hoby Milner (5-4) took the loss for Reading.
The series continues tonight at 7:05, with righty Radhames Liz (0-1, 1.11) starting for New Hampshire against righty Ryan O’Sullivan (2-4, 3.33) for Reading.
