Burns, Fisher Cats walk off with extra-inning win over Thunder
Andy Burns knocked a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th inning yesterday to give the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (41-45) a 9-7 victory over the Trenton Thunder (40-49).
New Hampshire took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a fielder’s choice and a single from Kevin Nolan (4-for-5, three RBI). Trenton answered with a pair of runs in the second and three more in the third for a 5-2 lead.
A triple by Burns and a home run from Mike McDade pulled the Fisher Cats within a run and the score stayed that way until the seventh, when Trenton went on top, 7-4.
In the bottom of the inning, Nolan drove in Burns and McDade to make it 7-6, then in the eighth, the Fisher Cats tied it on a fielding error.
Randy Boone (1-3) earned the win, pitching the final two innings with one hit and two strikeouts.
