The Concord Cannons Prospects 16U baseball team (pictured above) improved to 20-6 thanks to three consecutive tournament championships. The Cannons won the War at the Shore tournament in Lyme, Conn.; the Franklin Pierce Invitational in Rindge; and the Baseball Heaven Motus Independence Day Tournament on Long Island this past weekend. The Cannons will participate in the New England Select Prospect Tournament, which starts Wednesday in Worcester, Mass.
Bow defeated Lamprey River, 6-5, in the 13-year-old Cal Ripken Babe Ruth State Tournament. Ben Kimball went the distance on the mound, striking out 13 and allowing only four hits (only two over the last six innings). Ben Boisvert drove Kimball home three times, while Kimball and Jonah Bult had an RBI apiece. Thomas MacEachron scored two runs. Defensively, Pete Apgar made three clutch plays in right field, while Caleb Olson played a great game at catcher. For Lamprey River, Rob Pinault scored two runs and had three hits, while Cam Sweet hit a two-run triple to open the game’s scoring.

Grizzlies baseball team will be holding tryouts Aug. 16-17 at Campbell High at the following times: 11-12-year-olds from 9-11 a.m., 13-14-year-olds from noon-2 p.m. and 15-16-year-olds from 3-5 p.m. Registration is 30 minutes before tryouts and the cost is $35. The NH Grizzlies is New Hampshire’s oldest premier, year-round baseball program. Four alumni have been drafted by MLB and more than 75 have played college ball, 96 percent with athletic scholarships. Concord Cannons travel baseball teams will hold tryouts for the 2015 season Aug. 23 at Concord Sports Center, 2 Whitney Road, in Concord. Cost per player is $30. Quonquer the Quad team fitness challenge will be held Oct. 5 at NHTI. The event will include 20 stunts and 4+ miles on campus, designed by alumnus Eric Marsh of FIT to be completed by teams of four members, 12 years or older. The event will conclude with a kid’s challenge, directed by NHTI cross country Coach Tom Walton. All proceeds will benefit the Jen Kemp Scholarship fund for NHTI students. Concord Cannons Fall Baseball League will begin its ninth season in September. There will be three different leagues: 12U, middle school and high school. All teams are guaranteed 14 games and a weekly team practice at Concord Sports Center. Players will receive one game shirt and game hat, one batting cage punch card, good for 10 30-minute sessions at CSC ($150 value) and discounted private instruction lessons. UNH football program will host Wildcat Football Camp from Sunday-Thursday from 5:30-8 p.m. nightly at the UNH football facilities. Grades 6-9 will practice separately from grades 10-12.
