Sea Dogs hit three homers in 6-3 victory over Fisher Cats
Fishers fall in Portland
Matt Newman hit three doubles and the Fisher Cats tallied seven as a team, but they stranded 10 runners in a 6-3 series-opening road loss to the Portland Sea Dogs last night.
Portland (60-33) made New Hampshire (43-49) pay after the Fisher Cats left two runners on in each of the first two innings. Portland’s Derrik Gibson led off the first with a home run against starting pitcher Scott Copeland, then an inning later David Chester (solo) and Mike Brenly (two-run shot) also went deep.
Newman went 4-for-4 and also drew a walk. K.C. Hobson (2-for-4) and Kevin Nolan (2-for-5) also had multi-hit games for the Fisher Cats. Copeland (5-7) pitched five innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits.
The series continues today with a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
