Sea Dogs’s eighth-inning rally beats Fisher Cats, 7-6
New Hampshire’s Andy Burns had a career-high four hits and Jon Berti and K.C. Hobson both hit home runs, but a four-run eighth inning by the Portland Sea Dogs sent the Fisher Cats to a 7-6 defeat yesterday.
With Portland (62-34) ahead 1-0 after the first, the Fisher Cats (44-51) grabbed the lead with a five-run fourth, thanks to Hobson’s two-run shot and Berti’s three-run blast. The Sea Dogs got two back on a pair of solo homers by David Chester and Shannon Wilkerson, then Derrick Chung’s RBI single plated Burns (who had tripled) for a 6-3 Fisher Cat lead in the seventh.
Tyler Ybarra (4-4) couldn’t hold the lead, however, with the first four batters of the eighth all reaching and scoring, sparked by Blake Swihart’s leadoff homer.
The teams wrap up the series today at noon in Portland. Righty Casey Lawrence takes the ball against Sea Dogs righty Mike Augliera.
