Copeland pitches a beauty as Fisher Cats shut out Thunder

Kevin Nolan’s single broke a scoreless tie in the sixth and Sean Ochinko provided insurance with a two-run double in the eight as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the visiting Trenton Thunder, 3-0, last night.

Fisher Cats starter Scott Copeland (6-7) matched a season high with eight innings to win for the first time since June 4. He allowed just three hits and a walk, putting just one runner past first base. He struck out four before Gregory Infante pitched a scoreless ninth to stay a perfect 14-for-14 in save attempts.

Nolan (2-for-4) drove in Jon Berti for the game’s first run after Berti drew a two-out walk and Andy Burns (2-for-4) singled. Ochinko’s double off the top of the left-field walk plated Burns and Nolan.

The teams meet again today at 12:05 p.m. in the finale of the Fisher Cats’ homestand. Matt Boyd (1-3, 6.42) gets the start for New Hampshire against Zach Nuding (5-2, 3.00).
