UNH football team ranked No. 1 in CAA preseason poll

’Cats No. 1 in CAA

The Colonial Athletic Association released its preseason football poll yesterday and the University of New Hampshire was perched on top. The Wildcats, who reached the FCS semifinals for the first time in school history last year, received 15 of a possible 24 first-place votes. UNH was followed in the poll by Villanova (two first-place votes), Richmond (three first-place votes), William & Mary (three first-place votes) and Towson.

A pair of ’Cats also received individual preseason recognition. Wide receiver R.J. Harris and running back Nico Steriti were both named to the Preseason All-Conference Team. Despite missing three games last season, Harris led UNH in receptions (76) and was second on the team in yards receiving (1,004), touchdown catches (five) and all-purpose yards (1,131). Steriti led the team in yards rushing (1,028) and all-purpose yards (1,400).

UNH, which finished 10-5 last year and ranked No. 5 in the nation, will open its season on Aug. 30 at Toledo.
