Berti, Lawrence lead Fisher Cats over Mets, 7-2
Matt Newman’s home run highlighted a four-run first inning and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats cruised to a 7-2 road victory over the Binghamton Mets last night, wrapping up a 4-2 road trip.
Newman’s blast followed the first of Jon Berti’s four hits and made it 2-0 just two batters into the game. Berti finished 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs. Andy Burns (2-for-5, double, two runs) and Derrick Chung (2-for-5, double, RBI, run) also had multi-hit games as part of the Fisher Cats’ 11-hit attack.
Starting pitcher Casey Lawrence improved to 8-5 and lowered his ERA to 2.72 by pitching seven innings and allowing only two runs. He allowed eight hits and one walk while striking out two.
The Fisher Cats return home today to start a four-day, five-game homestand with the Reading Fightin Phils. John Anderson (3-3, 4.43) will be on the mound for the Fisher Cats against Hoby Milner (6-5, 4.60).
The Boston Red Sox’s World Series trophies from 2004, 2007 and 2013 will be on display after tonight’s game.
