Concord all-stars fall to Connecticut in 9/10-year-old Eastern Regional, 13-1
It was a rough start for Concord’s 9/10-year-old Little League all-stars at the Eastern Regionals yesterday in Cranston, R.I.
Up against the Connecticut state champs from Mystic, Concord gave up runs in each inning and Connecticut ended the game after four innings, 13-1.
Connecticut jumped on the board early, scoring twice in the top of the first on an RBI triple by starting pitcher Colin Anderson and a sacrifice fly.
Concord answered right back in the home half of the inning on doubles by Ryan Philbrick and Brooks Craigue to make it a 2-1 ballgame.
Those would be the last hits the New Hampshire champs could muster, however.
Mystic, on the other hand, broke the game open in the second when a pair of RBI singles, an error and a sacrifice fly brought in four runs for a 6-1 lead.
Two more runs in the third and five more in the fourth made it 13-1 and enabled Connecticut (2-0) to end the game by the mercy rule.
Concord (0-1) will look to bounce back today when it takes on Massachusetts (0-1) in a 2 p.m. game.
