’Cats grab fourth
The University of New Hampshire football team got some early respect from the FCS coaches.
The Wildcats are ranked fourth in the coaches’ poll, which was released yesterday. Defending FCS champion North Dakota State is first, followed by Eastern Washington and Southeastern Louisiana. Montana rounds out the top five.
UNH finished last season with a 10-5 record. The Wildcats went all the way to the FCS semifinals last year, getting playoff wins over Lafayette (45-7), Maine (41-27) and Southeastern Louisiana (20-17) before getting knocked out by the eventual champion Bison, 52-14.
The final spots in the top 10 went to Coastal Carolina, Towson, Jacksonville State, McNeese State and South Dakota State.
Eastern Washington (6), Southeastern Louisiana and Towson (1 each) got first-place votes.
