Concord Little League all-stars get first victory in Eastern Regional
The Concord Little League 9/10-year-old all-stars scored early and often on their way to a 14-8 victory over Scarborough, Maine, in the Eastern Regional yesterday, improving their record to 1-2. A loss would have ended Concord’s chances of advancing out of pool play.
Maine jumped ahead 2-0 after one inning, but Concord scored six runs in the second and five in the third for an 11-4 lead after three innings. Maine made things interesting by scoring four runs in the fourth, only to see Concord pull away with three in the top of the sixth, highlighted by Isaiah Robles’s two-run double.
Brooks Craigue led Concord’s offense, reaching base four times, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Cam McGonigle and Noah Brent each had two-run singles to help open the big lead.
Concord faces Rhode Island tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. The team must finish with one of the two best records in their region to made it to the semifinals.
