Offense breaks out for Fisher Cats in 8-5 win over RubberDucks
A three-run homer by Matt Newman in the bottom of the second inning gave the Fisher Cats a lead they would not relinquish and New Hampshire went on to beat the Akron RubberDucks, 8-5, last night.
Akron (70-57) pulled within a run in the fourth, 3-2, on a solo home run by Anthony Gallas, but the Fisher Cats (60-66) responded in a hurry, plating three more runs in the home half of the inning. Two runs in the fifth gave New Hampshire an 8-2 lead before Akron chipped away down the stretch.
Randy Boone allowed one run on two hits over the final 2.1 innings for his 10th save. Richard Bleier (5-5) picked up the win, with Gallas’s homer the only hit he allowed over five innings.
K.C. Hobson went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs, and Andy Burns added a single and double for New Hampshire.
