Concord’s Ferreira runner-up at Ironman Mont-Tremblant
Just three weeks after winning the Ironman triathlon in Lake Placid, N.Y., Concord’s Amber Ferreira finished runner-up at Ironman Mont-Tremblant yesterday, unofficially stamping her ticket to the Ironman World Championships on the Kona Coast of Hawaii in October.
Yesterday’s finish moved her into 11th place in the world rankings, with the top 35 qualifying for Kona.
“That hurt so bad,” Ferreira said, according to Ironman.com’s live race blog.
Ferreira finished the 2.4-mile swim in 58:40, coming out of the water in sixth place among the women. She’d moved up to fourth less than five miles into the 112-mile bike portion, and was second before riding 20 miles. She took over the lead a little more than halfway through the bike and stayed out front until eventual winner Sara Gross of Canada passed her about 21 miles into the 26.2-mile run. Ferreira finished in 9:43:46, 3:20 behind Gross.
