Johnson, Sea Dogs one-hit Fisher Cats

Even though the current Red Sox are mired in last place, there’s hope down on the farm. Starter Brian Johnson and two relievers combined on a one-hitter last night as the Portland Sea Dogs beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 7-1.

Johnson (10-2) earned his 10th win, allowing only a solo homer to Andy Burns in seven innings of work. He struck out 10 and walked two in lowering his ERA to 1.83. Aaron Kurcz and Dayan Diaz each pitched one hitless inning to seal the win.

Portland (83-50) connected for four home runs – from Stefan Welch, Keury De La Cruz, Sean Coyle and Mike Miller – off Fisher Cats (63-69) pitching, taking a 4-0 lead through five innings before Burns’s 14th home run of the season broke up Johnson’s no-hit bid in the sixth.

Austin Bibens-Dirkx (6-3) took the loss for New Hampshire, giving up four runs on eight hits over four innings.
